A sibling to the just-launched Land Rover Defender 110, the new Defender 90 is shorter in length, smaller in size, and cheaper in price, but is no less capable when it comes to exploring the great outdoors. Plus, thanks to a front-center jump seat, it carries up to six people. Two turbocharged engines are available, each paired with permanent 4-wheel drive.
Long rumored but never delivered, a V-8 engine finally returns to Jeep’s legendary off-roader. Based on the Wrangler Unlimited, the new 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 gets extensive engineering modifications to accommodate a 6.4-liter V-8 making 475 horsepower. It comes only in off-road-ready Rubicon trim, and with a healthy load of standard equipment. According to Jeep, quantities will be limited.
A redesigned flagship Mercedes-Benz sedan is coming soon, and it promises to set lofty standards in terms of design, comfort, quality, safety, and technology. From its active ambient cabin lighting and Energizing seat kinetics to its My MBUX digital assistant and augmented reality head-up display, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be the full-size luxury sedan against which all competitors are measured.
Infiniti is planning to replace its midsize 3-row SUV, the QX60, with a vehicle that looks like this. Dubbed the QX60 Monograph, this SUV shows nearly production-ready design details for the all-new 2022 Infiniti QX60. Expect it to share a platform with the upcoming redesigned Nissan Pathfinder, and perhaps installation of the same turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 found in the Infiniti Q50.
With the redesigned 2022 Volkswagen Golf R, VW unleashes the most powerful Golf it has ever built. With 315 horsepower, standard torque-vectoring all-wheel drive, and a full hardware upgrade to support maximum performance, the new Golf R screams to 60 mph in a claimed 4.6 seconds and tops out at 155 mph. Best of all, it retains its stealthily anonymous design. Don’t look for massive air dams or giant wings here.
What is a redesigned car model? Redesigned models are vehicles that have been completely or substantially redesigned or re-engineered in a way that they look and drive nothing like the vehicle they replace. Redesigned cars for 2021 include the Hyundai Elantra and the Nissan Rogue. Often, car companies will refer to an updated vehicle as a redesign when it actually isn’t. We won’t include such models, like the 2021 Honda Odyssey, in this guide.
Infiniti hopes the new 2022 QX55 will remind people of the original FX35, but there isn’t much tying the two models together aside from a fastback roofline and the automaker’s endless highway logo. The QX55 is basically a QX50 with less interior room, Infiniti applying the same recipe to its compact crossover that BMW and Mercedes-Benz do to theirs (and now Audi, too). As is true of other SUV “coupes,” you’ll pay more for less with the Infiniti QX55.
There's a big safety benefit to buying the newest car you can afford. When you buy a new car, you're ensuring you're getting a car that's up to the most recent safety standards in both crash testing and in safety technology. A new car compared to a used car from even five years ago can have big safety advantages with things like more airbags, a more rigid construction, and more advanced technology like a backup camera which is now mandatory on every new car sold in the U.S.
